3 Years and Counting

Dave and I celebrated our third Anniversary a couple of weekends ago. Our actual anniversary date is October 21, but we celebrated on Oct 25th-26th. It was quite possibly the best 24 hours we have had in the past year. Dave is the most romantic and amazing husband, he planned the entire weekend and it was perfect!

On Sunday morning we woke up around 9am and Dave finally told me the surprise...we were going to the GAGE HOTEL where he had booked us a King room with fireplace. For those of you not from west Texas you may not have heard of this amazing place, but it is out in the middle of no where. Actually it is located in Marathon, Texas and the hotel is basically all there is. This place has SO much character, it is private, removed, beautiful, and cozy.

What more could you ask for on a night away? It is only about a 2 hour drive from Midland so we hopped in the car and made our way out to the mountains, it is very close to Big Ben National Park. In the future I will not be camping out at Big Ben now that I have experienced the Gage, I will be staying there and driving in for nature and hikes on future visits. When we arrived there was a shaggy dog hanging out in the lobby, and Dave surprised me with a WONDERFUL prenatal massage. All of the rooms open up into a courtyard, and the place is set up like a hacienda, we both agreed that our friends the Greers would love this place and we hope to set up a return trip with them and others in tow.

The rooms are all different and you feel like you aren't in the US anymore, there are no TVs in room, only satellite radio, and the bed linens were to die for. While I got my massage Dave hung out in the lounge where there is a huge TV and all the guests watch together. On this particular Sunday there were a bunch of old guys in for their 50th high school reunion and of course Dave made friends with them while they all watched the cowboys game. After my massage we went and took a nap, then we got ready for dinner, which we had on site at the hotels five star restaurant. It was amazing food and a beautiful setting, then we headed back to our room, where we hung out in the courtyard listening to jazz and the fountain, and talked. Its been so long since we have been together with absolutely no distractions, no baby's room to work on, or computers, or tvs. We got to really catch up with one another, and I loved every minute, because even when we are able to get away just the two of us after Fay is born, we will be parents, and parents have to check in and worry about their kids, even when they try not to. We realized this was probably the last trip we would take as Katie and Dave and not Mom and Dad.

That night it got cold and Dave built us a fire and we then it started raining...we stayed up and listened to the rain and it was super special. The next morning we headed back to work and reality but for at least 24 hours it was just the Katie and Dave show. And it was great!

  1. Not sure if you're referring to the old or the young Greers, but, speaking as an old Greer, this looks like my kind of place! I definitely want to make a visit sometime. Thanks for sharing the great pictures.

Please remember to give us a heads up when Fay's birthday arrives.
